First NY Lobby Day of 2021

With so much of our day-to-day lives moving online as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, meeting with our elected leaders to advocate for pro-worker legislation looks different this year than anything we’ve experienced before, and CWA Legislative & Political Action Team members have proved up for the challenge.

On Thursday, February 4th we held our first New York State Lobby Day with members representing locals from Buffalo to the Bronx and met with dozens of legislators in the New York State Assembly and Senate. Normally we’d be flooding the halls of the Capitol Building in Albany with red and meeting with legislators in their offices or outside Assembly and Senate chambers, but for now we’re holding meetings via Zoom (while still rocking the red).

Dozens of lively, challenging discussions were held on Thursday on topics including expanding broadband access for New Yorkers, health and safety standards for workers in the wake of COVID-19, eliminating burdensome fees for graduate workers, banning anti-union “captive audience meetings,” and protecting jobs when call center contractors change.
